As Black history month rolls in - let's find some fun, creative, and respectful ways to learn about, celebrate and support the African American communities we live in or neighbor.
There is so much beauty all around us, if we simply stop to find it.
Black history month, comes with much richness and culture, and it allows a great opportunity to educate ourselves and our children of the rich history of this group of people who have a significant impact on American History.
So let's discuss some ways you can celebrate Black History month:
- Read Books by black authors: Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Jacqueline Woodson, and so many more!
- Visit Black history Museums: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjn_ouO5ZaLAxWBv4kEHR2tI1kQFnoECBQQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fafricanamericanmuseumct.org%2F&usg=AOvVaw28UHvZc9DUd4qVPeeDuXU1&opi=89978449
- Engage in mindful dialogue: Create opportunities for open conversations about race and systemic issues that directly impact Black communities. (This is something you can teach children about, if you do some research - then have open discussion with your kids)
- Check out all the fascinating Black History landmarks up close and in person by taking a look at the Connecticut Freedom Trail.
- Support Black-Owned Businesses: ShopBlackCT - Black-Owned Business Guide - Connecticut
Whatever you choose to do, remember to be respectful and authentic. Be curious and genuine in your quest for knowledge, and ensure that whatever you do, continues beyond the month!
