February is here - that means we celebrate FRIENDSHIP!

Teaching our littles and not-so-littles about what it means to be a kind pal.

As we enter a new month - let us remember that this month, is all about the relationships we value. For us adults that may encompass a romantic relationship, and our relationship with our kiddos. For our kiddos, it is more often than not a friendship or two (or many!) that drive their willingness to show they care and share.

So as the month progresses, here are some things to focus on with your kids relating to friendship/caring about others:

  1. Compliment others! (Can be a verbal compliment to friends/family or even random people you see out and about) - want to take it a step further, make nice compliment cards - and leave them places for people to find! (Get creative, let the kids color/decorate etc)
  2. Draw a picture for someone - maybe have the kids pick out someone who does not typically get their drawings (Idea: your Mailperson- have the kids draw them a thank you and leave them a treat!)
  3. Encourage your kids to play with someone new, maybe someone who others do not typically include.
  4. Say Thank you (Parents this goes for you too! Say Thank you, for any act of kindness or gesture done unto you) - we lead best when we lead by example.
  5. Hold the door open - small gesture, big impact and it teaches kids awareness of their surroundings, the world is not a singular bubble, but rather a wide expansive place where we co-exist with others. Holding the door is a simple nudge to that greater lesson.
  6. Volunteer - we have shared opportunities in prior articles on volunteering - check them out!
  7. Recyle or Pick up trash - being kind to mother Earth is a big task we should all dabble in!
  8. Read books or stories about kindness
  9. Check-in on elderly relatives and do something kind
  10. Send someone a card! Who doesn't love getting mail? Especially something handmade with love!

Whatever you and your kids choose, do it with care and love and kindness. Knowing that what we put out into the world, is what ultimately comes back to us.

Happy creating and growing!
